In 1980 Amanda McBroom wrote The Rose. Bette Midler sung and recorded the song and it became an instant hit. The Rose is a simple song using only four chords: C, F, G, and Em. It is written in the key of “C”. It is a classic example of a 1-4-5 chord progression; the Em chord is a substitute chord. The Rose is easy to learn and easy to play.
